the art of sailing | muscat oman sail photography | extreme sailing series oman

Caught the last race of the day at the Extreme Sailing Series, Muscat, Oman with the help of friends in high places... or was it low places? Well, it doesn't matter, because all that matters is good photography and sailing.
I was very surprised to see such a short course for such large boats. Hopefully the wind picks up, and I'm on a RIB because this could get interesting quickly. With such closeness to the boats, my 200mm was more than suitable, so I didn't miss me beloved 300mm f/2.8 I sold years ago. Both the Oman Sail boats are doing good. Oman Air with 84 points is sitting in 2nd trailing Groupe Edmond de Rothschild by one point. The Wave - Muscat is 3rd with 72 points.

Great to be back on the water shooting again. Enjoy!

life is like a regatta | oman sailing photography

The Extreme Sailing Series has finally arrived in Muscat. Personally, I am very excited for seeing the boats compete and working on new images. Being an avid sailor, I can appreciate the level of skill it takes to control these beasts on short circuits. Check back throughout the event to see more images.

muscat fashion week | professional photography

A couple students and I received access to the Muscat Fashion Week 2012 at Riyam Park for photography fun. This was great for me with networking and practicing the very perishable skill of photography. I concentrated on capturing what the press photographer were not, which was quite fun. Nice to not worry about a deadline or get specific shots. This was a great experience for the two students because they were able to see what it is exactly like photographing for a media outlet. They also met many future colleges :) More events like this are in the works.

Thanks to my co-worker on the initial design direction, I've come up with a card not only with updated details, but with a fresh look. This is the official Darren DeSilva Photography business card v3.0 Get them while they are hot!

tour of oman | muscat cycling photography

After photographing three exciting stages I can honestly say Oman has a bright future in the cycling world. I was lucky enough to find time to position myself for gorgeous photography during the six day event. Stage 3 yielded beautiful light at the Bank Muscat finish near Muscat International Airport. Sprinter Marcel Kittel (GER) from Project 1T4i won the stage with an excellent sprint at the end.

The final stage finished at the Mattrah Corniche but first after 7 laps on the closed circuit. The location and length of time the cyclist spent in the area meant for plenty of photographic opportunities.

Beating out the likes of Mark Cavendish and André Greipel, Kittel again won stage 6. Nice Job! View all the Tour of Oman winners.
