roecker first view | coto de caza family portraits

This location was new to me, and a complete mystery before my arrival, so I was scouting with the client all ready to go, a real risk. All I can say is WOW, and thank you to Jennifer for insisting on this location in Coto de Caza. What a perfect place for portraits! Southern California has so my option with locations for portraits: urban, beach, park, golf course, harbor... this is just one more fine example.

I photographed a conference in Anaheim a few weeks ago, and to keep myself from getting bored I was on the hunt for things graphic and abstract... here are my favorites:

johnson first view | dana point beach portraits

Clouds are not bad for portraiture! Clouds make soft light, and soft light makes beautiful portraits as you can see. The Johnson Family presented a little more challenge because they have a little man, 13 months old. I am always up for a challenge, but know from experience that I need to work quickly and get the portrait in the bag before the little ones loose their patience. Just another great day at the beach.

wiener first view | orange county family portraits

I had a great time photographing the Wiener Family, and the weather was almost perfect. I can't remember the last time I have ever seen this much seaweed on the beach, but at least it made for nice images. Just goes to show you that outdoor portrait photography is full of surprises.
